In Quba itself, the nineteenth-century Juma Mosque, local tea houses and the bazaar are easy to explore on foot. The great excursion from Quba is the winding mountain road to Khinalug, a stone village at more than 2,000 metres that is among the highest inhabited villages in the Caucasus and has its own ancient language. The neighbouring Qusar district is home to the Shahdag mountain resort, with skiing in winter and hiking and cable cars in summer. Quba is at its best from May to September, when the orchards are green and the mountain roads are open.
