Košice was European Capital of Culture in 2013, and many old barracks and pools were turned into arts spaces. Try bryndzové halušky, potato dumplings with sheep's cheese, garlic soup served in a bread bowl, and dry Tokaj wine from the small Slovak part of the Tokaj region, about an hour away. May to September is the best time to visit.
