Why visit Amboseli?

Amboseli National Park is in southern Kenya, close to the border with Tanzania. It is famous for its views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain, which rises just across the border. The park is also known for its large herds of elephants, which have been studied here for decades.

The classic Amboseli image is a line of elephants walking across the plains with the snow-capped peak of Kilimanjaro behind them, best seen on clear mornings. Swamps fed by underground water from Kilimanjaro attract elephants, buffalo, hippos and many water birds. Lions, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras and wildebeest can also be seen on game drives. Observation Hill gives a panoramic view over the swamps and plains. Maasai communities live around the park, and cultural visits to their villages are commonly arranged. Amboseli is often combined with the Maasai Mara or with Tanzania's parks on a longer safari.
