Why visit Agadir?

Agadir is Morocco's main beach resort, on the Atlantic coast in the south of the country, with a wide crescent of sand, a long promenade and a reputation for sunshine almost all year round. The city was rebuilt after the earthquake of 1960, so it feels modern and relaxed.

Take the cable car up to the Agadir Oufella, the ruined kasbah on the hill, where the words 'God, Country, King' are written in Arabic across the slope, for views over the bay and port. The Souk El Had is one of the largest markets in Morocco, and the fishing port has simple grills serving the catch of the day. North of the city, Taghazout and Tamraght are laid-back surf villages with schools for all levels, and Paradise Valley is an oasis of palms and rock pools in the Atlas foothills. Souss-Massa National Park protects coastal wildlife, and the walled town of Taroudant makes a good day trip. Eat tagine, couscous and grilled sardines.
