North of the city, the road climbs through the green Varzob Gorge towards the Fann Mountains and the lake of Iskanderkul, and Dushanbe is also the usual start of trips along the Pamir Highway. The city has an international airport. The best time to visit is April to June and September to October, as summers are very hot.
